Secrets 21

Chapter 21

Santo Domingo. (Dominican Republic)

Inside his suite, Valentino snapped his eyes open as soon as he heard a door slamming closed. He then looked at Renee who was peacefully asleep, clasped to his body.

They had ended up exhausted, but Val was unable to sleep deeply, he was still too excited. There were many things to take care off.

He had to phone his parents first thing when he was back to LA, telling them the great news. Then he had to talk to Renee in order to know where she wanted to get married. He really didn’t care about the place as long as she married him.

Val laughed nervously, he still didn’t believe completely that Renee had said ‘yes’.

At the sound of his laughter, Renee smile in her dreams. “Valentino…” She mumbled in her sleep, as her smile grew wide.

Val kicked himself silently, he was going to end up waking her and even though the idea was much more than tempting, he knew that Renee needed to sleep. So slowly, he lifted a hand, stroking her cheek, feeling her body relax again.

Carefully, Valentino disentangled himself, trying his best not to wake her, and stood. He then leaned over the woman who soon would be his wife, he kissed her lips softly, and she let out a contented sigh.

Valentino grinned as he climbed out of bed and put on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. After that, he headed toward the kitchen, licking his lips and relishing her taste on them unable to wipe the wicked grin away from his face.

When he reached the kitchen, Val went directly to the big fridge, pulling out a bottle of champagne and a container full of strawberries. Renee might be able to get some sleep on the jet.

Val chuckled silently at his own thoughts and when he was ready to come back to his bedroom, he heard someone talking outside near the swimming –pool. Without a second thought, he replaced the things inside of the fridge again and headed toward the front terrace. When Val reached it, he saw Luna lying on a hammock, crying silently.

Val sighed hard, shaking his head, suddenly frustrated and mad.

Renee had been telling him about her conversation with Luna that morning and even though he knew that at the end it wasn’t their business, he couldn’t help how he felt about it.

Val always had kept to himself his suspicions concerning Vin’s and Luna’s sudden and unexpected close friendship, but he was starting to worry about her.

When Renee introduced her to him, Val liked Luna. She seemed funny and intelligent and she was sexy. And he didn’t know the reason why but Luna reminded him of Tess. Even though physically they were as similar as night and day, they had both the same smart mouth and almost the same ups and downs.

Val frowned, thinking if Vin had noticed too and that was one of the reasons why he had allowed her to be near him, considering Luna as a new member of his team. Still lost in thought, Val narrowed his eyes and made up his mind.

Sure, Vin would be mad as hell with him, but it wasn’t that Val really cared at this point. They were like brothers, Vin would get over it. However, he missed Luna’s friendship a little. Lately, Vin had been monopolizing Luna’s time and Val couldn’t help but wonder if Vin was jealous of Renee’s and his own friendship with Luna.

Val shook his head and without another thought, he headed to the swimming pool. It was time to have a little conversation with Luna about Vin’s past.

————-

Luna heaved a hard sigh and dressed in shorts and a big shirt. She then searched inside of her hand case and pulled out a little wooden box. Inside there was a small plastic bag, closed hermetically, with a bunch of cannabis cigarettes. Pulling one out, Luna closed the bag and put it again inside the box. Picking up the lighter, Luna slid open the glass door of her bedroom and went directly to the swimming pool.

On her way, Luna crossed paths with one of the bodyguards who was making his rounds through the garden. They greeted each other and after chatting for a few minutes, the man continued walking to the other side of the villa.

Luna lay on a hammock and lit the joint up, taking a deep puff, feeling her lungs expanding inside her chest as the smoke slid through them. She held her breath for a couple of seconds and then exhaled the smoke, waving her hand, dissolving the dense cloud in front of her.

Taking another deep puff, Luna closed her eyes, feeling the side effects of the joint as her muscles relaxed. She was starting to enjoy the sound of the ocean, the waves crashing against the shore. With her eyes still closed, Luna inhaled deeply in the scent of salt and sea, mixed with the sickeningly sweet aroma of the cannabis, floating around her.

For the second time in her life, Luna felt like a ship drifting in the middle of a storm, unable to keep control of her own direction anymore. She wasn’t sure where she was heading and actually she was regretting her friendship with Vin.

She felt so alone and helpless that Luna wanted to scream and beat the shit out of herself. She felt cornered, trapped inside of Vin’s net. No way out, no hopes.

The painful evidence was there, but for some reason, she had refused to see it, pretending that it didn’t exist. Maybe because if she was aware of how wrong she was, then it meant that she couldn’t hold onto her dream anymore. Then it would mean that she should start living in the real world instead and that, that would be even worse.

Taking another puff, Luna blew the smoke to the edge of the joint, making the ashes burn red, coming to life.

All her Spanish friends her age were already married with kids, divorced with kids, or single with kids. Most of them had real jobs with a constant salary and they were doing the weekly shopping with their husbands or boyfriends on Saturdays.

All those women who had grown up with her had normal lives, whatever normal meant. Did she really want that kind of life for herself? Was she really missing that kind of life?

Luna never felt part of that normal world. Not even once. She looked around, feeling comfortable with who she was or where she was standing and that was the main reason why she didn’t think twice when that email arrived in her mailbox.

Back then, all her friends and family said that she was crazy and that she would come back with her tail between her legs in less than a year. Not even one of them had believed in her talent and even though the realization hurt like a bitch, Luna boarded that plane and didn’t look back. What the hell did she have to lose? She had nothing worthwhile at home, so why not?

Nevertheless, her current life was a mess and it sure as hell wasn’t normal, but only depending on which was the point of view and what was the definition of normal.

From one side, she was working on a script for one of the biggest channels in the US. She had been paid fifty per cent of her contract, in advance. She was punctually paying the rent of her small apartment; even though Vin had insisted that One Race continue paying for her after her contract with his company was done.

She hadn’t a boss who was yelling at her or a timetable. It meant that if some days she didn’t feel like it, she didn’t have to work at all. She had the best friends that anyone would want, Renee and Valentino, who loved her as much as she loved them. They were always available for her and she was sure that they would be able to do anything to help her, no matter what the circumstances.

Luna had to be graceful for that though, because unfortunately not all the people could say the same about their friends.

She was in Santo Domingo, lodged in one of the most indecently expensive resorts of the country, lying on the biggest hammock she had ever laid eyes on, smoking a joint. She had arrived here on board a private jet and she had been treated like a queen.

One of the most famous actors around the world, Vin Diesel in the flesh and bones, was a few meters from her doing whatever he was doing right now. And on top of it, that same famous actor, who happened to be one of the hotter and sexiest men on earth as well, had been fucking her not less than a few minutes before.

And, if at this point that wasn’t enough, she had the best sex ever with him, it had been him, and no other who made her scream in pleasure, bringing tears to her eyes after one of the most powerful orgasms she had enjoyed in her life.

But, in spite of how great that might sound, she felt like dirty shit, because she had turned weak. That same famous actor had her dancing in the palm of his hand at the rhythm he was playing, and what was worse, she was ready and able to dance every time he asked her for.

Luna thought that she was going from bad to worse. “…De Guatemala a guatepeor…” her mother used to say, “from the pan to the fire”.

First, she was his scriptwriter, after that, his best friend, in to his own words, and now what?

Her life was a complete mess and Renee was right. Vin was treating her like a possession and whether she wanted to admit it or not; whether she liked it or not, she was one of Vin’s possessions. She belonged to him. But, the scary feeling was that Luna didn’t exactly know how she had ended up in that position.

She really wanted to believe that Vin loved her and that it would be just a question of time when he finally realized how special she was and how in love he was with her. But she had no other choice but to admit that it was all just a painful lie, a self-destructive illusion.

Luna sighed as she opened her eyes, blinking silent tears, sniffing slightly.

She was now just a blurry shadow of who she was when she came to the US from Spain. The woman lying on that hammock had nothing to do with the woman who started writing fan fics based on her favourite actor two years before, and Luna couldn’t help but curse herself silently.

At least there was one single thing that Luna was sure she controlled completely, her career. Helped by her talent and her perseverance, she was making a name inside the business. Of course she was far from being someone, but still, she was doing things and those things were great and not just shit.

Her private life was a mess, that was for sure, and her feelings and emotions might be a complete chaos, but her career…that was a whole completely different thing.

Luna was proud of one single thing in her life, her talent for writing and, while everything else in her life was falling apart, her career was still standing.

The woman in Luna might be a mess, but the writer was brilliant, strong, gifted with a true skill for writing.

One day she would be that woman, the writer, the one who would be able to reach success. Every time Luna looked at herself in the mirror, behind the woman she could see the scriptwriter, she felt alive. Her pride was even bigger when she realized that it was a result of her own making. And she was sure that that someday she would reach the top without being a marionette in the filthy hands of any of those motherfuckers without scruples who were spread all over Hollywood.

She had a reason to fight, to hold on to and survive through the hell that Vin was making her go through. Something that Vin wasn’t controlling.

If Luna would have known how wrong she was, she would have died then and there.

—————

Vin rolled to one side on the bed, staring at the ceiling of his bedroom, recalling Luna’s words. How she always managed to hit the mark, he didn’t know, but for sure she had a way with words. Maybe it was because she was a writer, but sure as hell, she was the only one able to piss him off in a matter of seconds, just to make him feel a fucking shit later. Luna was like a sports car, from 0 to 100km/hour in less than 2.5 seconds.

Vin inhaled deeply and over the smell of rough sex still floating faintly around his bedroom, he could smell Luna’s scent all over him. Vin chuckled silently. He was going insane if he could still feel Luna’s warm skin pressed against his.

Closing his eyes, Vin was lost in thought about her and about how he had been treating her since the first time he noticed her presence.

She was right. He had been using her since the beginning. He had told himself that he was going to take the opportunity she was bringing him to try and be a better man, at least around her, and what had he done? Fucked her up. Luna offered him her honest friendship and in return he gave her nothing.

Fuck, Vincent, more like abusing, asshole, he scolded himself silently, shaking his head.

In a lame attempt to get over his guilt, he had let her near him, allowing her to live and enjoy a lifestyle just like his. She had been driving his SL all over LA. She had been flying aboard a private jet to Miami where she had bought expensive clothes for a weekend and then onto Santo Domingo.

She had been hanging around with him hand in hand in each and every exclusive club, restaurant and hotel where he carried her in LA and Miami. She had been meeting people who were interesting and convenient for her professional future. He found an agent for her! She even had met his parents, having dinner with them, talking with his mom!!

For God’s sake! What else does she want from me? Damnit!

Certainly, she hadn’t asked for any of those things and definitely, she had showed him her endless gratitude, even though she was oblivious to the agent stuff. So what was with her?

Vin started to suspect that Luna was right when she told him that he maybe knew a lot about chicks, but he sure as hell didn’t know shit about women. One minute she was almost crying because he had been able to drive her to one of the most powerful orgasms, the next one she was pissing him off with her words, hitting once more right on the mark.

Climbing out of his bed, Vin went to the window and looked outside, his eyes wandering absently through the garden of the villa when he spotted her.

Luna was lying on a hammock, smoking a joint. He then glanced at the clock upon the bedside table and saw that it was almost five in the morning. Slowly, Vin slid open the glass doors and without stepping outside he stared at her.

Almost immediately, a similar vision spread inside of his mind when Vin remembered part of Luna’s fan fic. She always enclosed in them this image, describing how the female character was at some point, laying in a hammock around a swimming pool, lost in thought. Vin couldn’t help but his mind recalled how Luna was in her stories.

She always pictured herself like a strong independent woman who never took bullshit off anyone, especially from his own character, the sweet ‘Mark’. Absolutely unpredictable and almost touching a bipolar mental disorder, showing an interior voice that on more than one occasion had led her to endless pain. Making her even leave the only man she had loved, ‘Mark’, her soul mate, just when they were about to reach perfection in their relationship. Vin frowned thinking about the other characteristic of her female character.

Luna had just left out a few details, such as her real birth date and the fact that she was always smoking, and not only cigarettes. From time to time she loved a good joint. Apart from that, she had a small ‘N’ no bigger than four square centimeters tattooed on her right shoulder blade in black.

It was a design she made herself. If you looked really close, you would see the silhouettes of a man and a woman holding hands while a lace made of barbwire was surrounding both of their bodies. Vin chuckled silently, when he remembered her explanation of the meaning of that tattoo.

“Together even through Hell”, Luna said as serious as a heart attack.

Physically, Luna was described almost exactly as she was in real life, maybe she had got rid of a couple of pounds here and there. Tall, a little more than 1,70cm, hazel hair, beautiful green eyes that turned grey when she had been exposed at the sunlight entering later in a shadowed place and sensual lips. Her body was the result of endless hours of training at the gym and controlling what she was eating since forever. She wasn’t thin, she was well toned and sure as hell she had a killer ass. She definitively wasn’t stunning or a breathtaking model, but she was sexy as hell.

Whoa, there, Vincent, a killer ass? Sexy as hell? Vin couldn’t help but he rolled his eyes, shaking his head at his last two thoughts when he realized that he was quoting himself. Those were the kinds of expressions that ‘Mark’ was using all the time with ‘Luna’. Damn you and your fucking fan fics, N!

Concerning sex, if before Vin had any doubt, after what had happened tonight, he was more than sure that she was the best, if he had to make comparisons with others. Others…

Vin chuckled at his own thoughts, recalling his first. Back then he was sixteen years old and madly in love with her. He had even been crying non-stop when she left him a couple of months later. At least, after so many years, Vin knew that she had married a boring door-to-door sales man, who was cheating on her and she now weighed more than 250 pounds.

At that exact moment, Tess’s memory came to his mind and Vin cursed himself silently. He had stopped thinking about her long ago, but it seemed that the more he thought about Luna, the more Tess’ memory was coming back, torturing him.

Shaking his head, Vin got rid of her and his mind went back to other girls who said they were in love with him, such as Michelle.

They met while shooting “TFATF” and almost immediately he fell for her. Vin grinned when he relived how Rob and he had been making changes in the script, adding a couple of scenes that at the beginning weren’t there. He wanted to give her more presence on screen, enlarging her role, adding more lines of dialogue. That fact cost him more than just one nasty argument with the scriptwriter and the producers, but at the end, Vin managed to get what he wanted.

Vin’s grin died on his lips when he remembered how he had felt when after they decided to end their relationship, she betrayed his confidence. Back then, Michelle gave an interview, saying that he was a pig because he was grabbing her bottom all the time and thinking about sex.

A soft growl escaped his mouth. She always loved that, but she wasn’t woman enough to admit it in public. She even said that he had treated her like property instead of a human being, showing her like a trophy, when all he had wanted was to be with her as much as possible.

Judith was another one. He met her at a party and one more time he fell for her almost immediately. He did all he could think to treat her like a queen. Vin sent her flowers, all kinds of expensive gifts, first class plane tickets to fly from one country to another… he wanted to be with her and he even thought for the second time in his life that she was the one. Buying a platinum ring with a big diamond, showing her how much he was in love with her.

She enjoyed all his attention, saying that she was completely in love with him too, but after it all, she dumped him for another guy without warning and one more time she went to the media, telling the story.

Vin heaved a hard sigh. He could spend the whole night thinking about all those who hurt him after so many years. Not even one of them had the decency and honesty to keep their mouth shut if she could add a few points to their own careers.

At the end, it had been always better with unknown chicks, at least that way they found it a little more difficult to have credibility when they were screaming around that they had been fucking Vin Diesel, having their fifteen minutes of fame.

Most of them, however, said that he was fucking amazing, gentle and concerned with their pleasures, making him out to be the perfect lover.

Vin sighed sadly. How was he going to act like a caring man when almost all of them had gone to the media, talking about his sex habits, his size, his current lifestyle or his feelings? How was he going to allow himself to be a sweet nice guy when every time he had done it, he had ended up with his heart broken?

At least, acting like a cold motherfucker was keeping himself almost untouchable concerning his wounded heart.

Shaking his head, Vin focused his attention on Luna again.

She was still in the same place, lying on the hammock, the outline of her silhouette enhanced by the interior lights of the swimming pool. Wrapping her in a turquoise veil of light, clouded for a second with the smoke coming from the joint.

An unconscious grin tugged his lips and he couldn’t help but wonder if he would be able to fall in love again after his painfully chaotic past.
