Chapter 33
When Vin entered the room, he wanted to die at the vision in front of his eyes. Luna was so pale that she seemed a living corpse and she had an IV stand at one side of her bed with two serum bags.
They were administrating her medication and fluids in order to re-hydrate her body through an open vein. She had four small patches on her chest connected to a heart monitor that was registering the frequency of her heartbeat. She was lightly sedated and under the effects of a strong painkiller in order to relieve the soreness in her throat and esophagus.
All of sudden his anger turned to pain and Vin found himself fighting back tears. It was entirely his fault. He should have seen this coming if he would have paid enough attention to her, and now she could be pregnant with their child.
Hesitantly, Vin moved a couple of steps forward and bent his head, kissing her forehead. Luna frowned slightly and slowly her eyes fluttered open, blinking.
“Hi, beautiful.” Vin whispered, tilting his head back a bit.
As soon as her vision cleared and Luna recognized Vin, she recalled Dr. Jacobs’ words and silent tears fell unrestrained down her temples as the heart monitor registered the fast increase in the rhythm of her heartbeats.
“Shhh, don’t cry, baby…” Vin felt his eyes sting and shut them tightly as he lifted a hand, stroking her hair and cleaning her tears with his thumb.
A whimper escaped her lips and Luna swallowed hard. “I’m sorry…,” she mouthed, thinking about the possibility that she was pregnant and all because of her stupid actions.
Luna wanted to beat the shit out of herself. At that time, her heart started to beat faster with every second and recalling what Dr. Jacobs had explained to him, Vin panicked a little.
“Luna, calm down, you’re heart is beating too fast…” He paused, swallowing hard. “Please, baby.” He added as he took her hand in his, squeezing softly.
At the sound of his voice, Luna took a ragged breath and exhaled the air slowly, causing her heartbeats to slow again, returning to almost normal.
Vin took a deep breath and tried to relax.
Luna swallowed hard. “Are you going to leave me?” She whispered, her voice completely hoarse.
Vin shook his head and kissed her lips softly. They were so cold that the sensation sent shivers to Vin’s spine.
“I’m not going anywhere without you, Luna.”
At his words, Luna squeezed his hand back and Vin stroked her cheek, forcing a smile. Then he picked up the chair and sat at her side.
Luna blinked her tears and smiled slightly, lifting her hand, stroking his scruffy head gently. She noticed the dark shadows under his eyes and a few wrinkles were more visible at the corners of them and on his forehead.
Vin’s gaze slid down and he stared at her belly, thinking about the last two weeks and how they had been fucking like nobody’s business all over his house, in the SUV and even at his office at One Race.
Fuck, Luna, what the hell are we going to do now? He thought silently.
Luna followed his line of vision and immediately fresh tears fell unrestrained along her temples. Vin blinked furiously and looked back at her.
“Are you in pain?” He asked, taking her hand, kissing it. His voice sounded concerned yet cold. Luna sniffed slightly and shook her head ‘no’.
Vin cracked his neck, easing the tension in his sore muscles. He didn’t know what to say or do right now.
Definitely, it wasn’t the time to have a conversation about their future together and until they had the result of the pregnancy test, there wasn’t anything to talk about.
Vin wasn’t going to let Luna out of his life, that was out of the discussion, but he wasn’t sure if he was ready to assume the responsibility of having a baby.
They had never talked about it though. Of course, they had been talking endlessly about how they would like to become parents someday, but that was before Santo Domingo. Back then, they weren’t considering having a baby together.
However, it was too soon to make a final decision concerning the matter. But, there was one thing that Vin knew for sure, they were going to change the contraceptive method if she wasn’t pregnant, and if she was…
Luna scooted to one side, making room for him on the bed and patted the mattress, pulling Vin out of his thoughts.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Luna. We are in a hospital, baby.” He teased, a small grin tugging his lips.
Luna chuckled weakly as she mouthed ‘fuck them’. Vin shook his head, still grinning and carefully he climbed in and made himself comfortable on the sheet, cuddling Luna’s back against his chest.
Taking care to not touch the patches on her chest or the IV on her left arm, Vin encircled her waist, took her right hand in his and entwined their fingers.
Luna turned her head and kissed his lips softly. “I love you, Vin.” She mouthed, blinking tears. Vin nuzzled her nose and whispered.
“Me too.”
The same nurse entered and saw the couple together.
“You can’t be there with her,” she scolded him as she checked the level of serum that was being injected in Luna’s vein while muttering under her breath in Spanish that all the celebrities were just a bunch of pervs who were always taking drugs and fucking like damn rabbits.
Vin didn’t understand a single word, but he shot her a cold gaze growling. Fuck you, bitch, he retorted silently, but started to rise when Luna tighten her hold on his hand. Vin looked at her, frowning, a questioning look on his face.
Luna did know what the nurse was saying, so she cleared her throat and swallowing hard, she forced her voice out.
“You don’t know shit about him, so you better shut your fucking mouth and leave us the fuck alone, bitch.” Luna said fiercely.
The nurse gasped, shocked, and after a moment, she hurried her steps, leaving the room.
Vin chuckled, shaking his head. “That’s my girl.” He whispered, grinning and kissed her neck.
