Chapter 42
NEW YORK
Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The Oriental Suite.
Vin was pacing back and forth like an animal caged. It had been months since the last time he had felt this way. He wasn’t just nervous; he was almost teetering into hysteria.
For the ninth time he glanced at his chrono, cursing silently. Seconds seemed to last endless minutes and minutes seemed to last endless hours. The hands of his watch were determined to move slower than they should, and the suspicion was getting on his nerves more than he would have liked to admit.
Vin had lost count of how many cigarettes he had consumed over the last hour in a lame attempt to calm his nerves, it wasn’t working though. The anxiety and the uncertainty about what was going on with Luna and her meeting at HBO was killing him silently.
He had done everything he could think of to keep his mind focused on one task and not wander with possibilities, each of them worse than the previous. He had gone down to the gym and had been training, burning calories along with some of his most feared suspicions, but as soon as he was back in the suite, his mind had started to torture him again.
He had thought about getting drunk, but a voice in the back of his mind had screamed a resounding ‘no’, so he had dismissed the idea as soon as it popped within his brain. Vin had even thought about going outside, taking a walk to calm his nerves but he wanted to be in the suite when Luna was back. So there he was, pacing back and forth, his jaw set and his brows furrowed in concentration.
When the phone rang, Vin jumped, startled, and rushed to pick it up. Jesus, he was going crazy damn fast!!
“Are you okay, baby?”
His voice shook a little as he swallowed hard.
“Wow! Luna was right. You’re charming.” Allison’s voice joked at the other side of the line.
Vin shut his eyes, cursing and cleared his throat.
“Allison?” He asked, taking a deep breath.
“Yep. The very same.” Allison laughed. “Is Luna back already?” She asked, still smiling.
Vin frowned deeply. “No. I thought she was with you?” He asked, narrowing his eyes.
“Oh, yeah, she was, but I forgot to tell her something.” Allison answered. “Would you please be so kind and tell her to call me back when she has two minutes. There’s something I want to discuss with her about that new project we were talking about.”
Vin narrowed his eyes even more. “What project?”
Allison went silent for a couple of seconds, she didn’t like the idea of talking about Luna’s future projects with someone else other than Luna, even if that someone else was Luna’s husband.
“Oh, just some new idea about… never mind, really. Just tell her to call me, please, Vin?”
Vin tightened his jaw. “Yeah, I’ll tell her, Allison, don’t worry.” He replied firmly. “What about the meeting? Do you know if everything went okay?” Vin sucked his lower lip.
“Oh, yeah, everything went great. Terrific actually.” Allison laughed. “Luna told me she made such an impression among her partners. She said she could not wait to see you and tell you about the juicy details.” Allison added.
Vin closed his eyes, letting out the air he was holding with a painful sigh. “Cool! I was worried for her.” He said, slightly relieved but something on Allison’s voice sounded odd.
“Oh, don’t be, Luna is an exceptional woman and an even better writer.” Allison said, smiling. “She looked like a buddle of nerves before the meeting though, but later when she came out, she definitely looked like a new woman.”
Unconsciously, Vin tensed every muscle in his body. “How so?” he asked cautiously.
“Well, Luna seemed confident and secure. In fact she was almost glowing.” Allison answered. “Okay, it has been a pleasure to talk with you, Vin, but now I have to run.”
“Oh, sure. Same here, Allison, I hope to meet you soon in person though.” Vin said, smiling a little. “Luna has been saying wonderful things about you.” He added, relaxing a bit.
“Yeah, that would be great. See you. Bye.”
“Bye, Allison.”
Vin hung up the phone and looked around, searching for his cell phone. He glanced at his chrono again. If Luna wasn’t with Allison anymore, that meant that she was already on her way back to the hotel.
Vin took a deep breath and padded to the bathroom. He was going to get a bath ready for his wife. Luna would love it. Yeah!!
Allison hung up her cell phone and glared at Luna. “You were right, he’s a bundle of nerves and he sounds a step away from insanity.” She stated, handing Luna a clean tissue.
Luna sniffled; drying her tears one more time, but it was useless because a wave of fresh tears were already spilling down her cheeks in seconds.
“Yeah, I bet.” Luna replied as she cleaned her nose. “That little asshole is in for a huge surprise. I’m gonna rip his dick…the mother…” She trailed off, muttering under her breath a string of obscenities in Spanish.
Allison bit her tongue hard to stop the wicked grin from spreading on her lips.
Just hearing Luna cursing like that was enough to make Allison burst out laughing. Any other day and she would have done it, but not today. Allison knew it wasn’t the time for that.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea to take it out on his jewels, Luna.” Allison said, smiling slightly.
Luna knit a brow.
“Why the fuck not, huh?” she replied, annoyed. In response Allison’s smile grew a little.
“Well, that would mean the end of that mind blowing sex, sugar.” She teased Luna, trying to lighten the mood. “Maybe you should go for another vital organ he doesn’t use often.”
“Like what? His heart?” Luna retorted angrily.
Allison sighed hard.
“Don’t be like that, sugar. You know he loves you.” She answered, taking Luna’s hand in hers. “He’s a twisted control freak but he still loves you, Luna or he wouldn’t have married you.”
Luna snorted. “Oh, yeah, I forgot that shit. My tasteless, vulgar wedding.”
Allison frowned deeply.
“It may not be a traditional weeding…” Luna cut her off.
“May not be?” She arched her brows at once. “I fucking got married with a fat version of damned Cher and a skinny queer version of Tom fucking Jones for my fucking witnesses, Allison! For fucks sake!!” Luna raised her voice, not caring whether anyone heard her at all. “The fucking King dressed in his sartorially flashy jump-suit with his cape and all the fucking paraphernalia officiated my damn wedding, goddamnit!!”
Her tone of voice and her words made the two old women sitting at the nearby table to stare at her as if she was a ghost.
Allison looked at the couple of old ladies with an apologetic smiled.
“She forgot to take her medication this morning. Tourettes syndrome.” Allison joked, causing both uptight ladies to look at Luna with sympathetic smiles plastered on their fake lips.
“I’m so sorry, dear.” One of them whispered, smiling sadly.
Luna rolled her eyes groaning and buried her face in her hands. “I have never felt so humiliated in all my life, Allison.” She whispered, blushing ten shades of red. “I wanted to die inside that stall.” Luna mouthed, fresh tears brimming in her eyes.
Allison squeezed Luna’s hand gently, sighing softly. “Listen, sugar, that wedding was not a sham. You are legally married to him.” She paused, lowering the tone of her voice and continued. “I checked the Civil Registry in the state of Nevada and the marriage is registered in their records, with all that legal babbling and stuff they always put in their documents. It’s absolutely legal.” Allison paused anew, leaning her head forward. “You, Luna Andrade, are married to Mark Sinclair Vincent. And no matter what anyone said, that’s a fact, sugar. You are his legal wife under the US laws.”
Luna lifted her head, meeting Allison’s gaze. “I want a divorce.” Luna said firmly. Allison’s eyes widened completely.
“What? Are you nuts?!” She exclaimed. Luna shook her head ‘no’.
“I don’t want to be married to him anymore. He’s a manipulative liar and he’s not going to change any time soon.” Luna explained, wiping away the tears falling down her cheeks.
Allison shook her head in disbelief.
“Just because he pulled some strings to help you in your career?” She asked, frowning. In response Luna nodded ‘yes’.
“I didn’t need his fucking help, damnit!” Luna hissed through clenched teeth. “And I didn’t ask for it.” Allison rolled her eyes.
“Fuck that, Luna!” She retorted fiercely. Luna blinked, shocked. “So what if he made some phone calls? So what if he sent his lawyers to negotiate your contract with HBO? He didn’t kill anyone, sugar. He did it because he knows you’re a talented writer…”
Luna cut Allison off.
“He did it because he felt guilty.” Luna retorted sharply.
“I don’t give a damn about his motivations, Luna. Why he did it is not important anymore because what he felt back then is not how he feels right now.” Allison said with determination. “He did it for the wrong reasons. Okay, I give you that, but if he wouldn’t have thought you were good, he wouldn’t have done it.”
“Yeah, sure.” Luna snorted, blowing her nose.
“Luna, will you fucking listen?” Allison said, annoyed, making Luna’s eyes widen. “When a guy feels guilty he buys flowers or candies or clothes, he doesn’t walk around assuring his woman’s professional future.”
“Oh, he did all that shit too.” Luna chuckled coldly. Allison grunted.
“Whatever.” She replied, looking at Luna. “The fact is, Vin can’t change what he did and even though you have every right to be pissed off with him. And God knows I’m with you 100%. He’s still your husband, Luna.”
“And just because he’s now my husband I have to forget and forgive? Just for the hell of it, huh?” Luna snapped, clenching her jaw.
Allison rolled her eyes, grunting. She was starting to get mad with Luna’s stubbornness.
“I’m not telling you forget and forgive, Luna.” She snapped back causing Luna to gasp soundly. “I’m just telling you to give your husband the chance to explain himself.” Allison said, sighing hard. “You can’t throw your marriage through the window just because you found your husband made a mistake. He’s not perfect Luna and you already knew that. Stop living that fairy tale you created within your imagination and start living the real life, sugar.”
—————–
Luna inserted her key card in the door of the suite and entered. Her eyes grew wide and she blinked, shocked beyond reality.
Dozens of candles lit the room and the essence of cinnamon incense floating faintly assaulted her nostrils making her heart jump within her chest. Luna felt the sting in her eyes and shut them tightly.
Damn him! Why did he have to be so damn sweet at the worst moment?
She took a deep breath, forcing the air past the lump in her throat and padded to the bedroom. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw what Vin had done in her absence.
He had moved the bed and some furniture to one side, making more room and he had spread cushions all over the floor, drawing a circle. Right in the middle there were several covered trays. The essence of cinnamon felt stronger here and Luna took a deep breath, filling her lungs with the sweet smell.
She opened her eyes and padded over slowly. Luna crouched, lifting one of the covers over the trays and her mouth watered in one second.
There was a selection of different kinds of cheeses; the portions of cheese had been placed on the tray in the shape of a heart and they had been cut heart shaped.
She replaced the cover and lifted the other two. On one of them there were dry fruits such as raisins, pistachio nuts, dried peaches, walnuts and the like. On the other there were bowls with black honey, flower honey and different flavors of marmalade.
Luna felt her heart clenching painfully.
Vin had ordered all of her favorites, without leaving out a single detail. He had remembered her weird taste regarding appetizers. Vin had even ordered several diet cokes and Corona beers that were buried in two medium size containers within a mountain of crushed ice and the containers had been placed at opposite sides of the trays.
I was a sailor, I was lost at sea
I was under the waves
Before love rescued me
I was a fighter, I could turn on a thread
Now I stand accused of the things I’ve said
Love comes to town I’m gonna jump that train
When love comes to town I’m gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
The sound of a low humming pulled Luna out of her thoughts and she lifted her head, staring at the bathroom door. A steamy cloud was sliding through the half open door and she heard the sound of streaming water.
I used to make love under a red sunset
I was making promises I was soon to forget
She was pale as the lace of her wedding gown
But I left her standing before love came to town
Luna found herself blinking against her blurry vision as soon as she heard the deep, velvety sound of Vin’s voice over the steady patter of running water in the bathtub. She loved that song and her heart double beat as she swallowed hard.
Luna had never heard him singing or even humming. And now here he was, half singing, half humming in his low, baritone voice while waiting for her to come back.
I ran into a juke joint when I heard a guitar scream
The notes were turning blue, I was dazing in a dream
As the music played I saw my life turn around
That was the day Luna came to town
Luna blinked, biting her quivering lip hard. Vin was changing the text of the song, and he didn’t even know she was there, yet. She took a ragged breath and slowly got to her feet.
When love comes to town I’m gonna jump that train
When love comes to town I’m gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
Luna stepped out of her high heels and padded barefoot to the bathroom. Without a sound, she leaned against the doorframe and pushed the door open. The vision in front of her eyes took her breath away.
Vin was sitting on the edge of the bathtub wearing only a towel. He was testing the temperature of the water.
Hissing softly, he opened the tap and added a little more cold water. He waited a few seconds and tested the temperature again, nodding his approval silently. And with that he kept singing, completely oblivious to Luna’s presence.
“When loves come to town, I’m gonna jump that train…” Vin sang low. “When love comes to town, I’m gonna catch that flame…” he smiled widely, closing his eyes. “Maybe I was wrong to ever let Luna down… but I did what I did before she came to town…” Vin chuckled at his own words because he had kept changing the text of the song, thinking about his wife, Luna.
“Should I get my blackmail kit now?” Luna teased him.
“Oh my fucking…!” Vin jumped to his feet, losing his balance and he almost fell on his butt. Luna couldn’t help but giggle.
The image was damn funny even if she wasn’t in the mood for jokes.
“Damn! Luna, you scared the shit out of me, baby.” He whispered breathlessly, pressing one hand against his chest.
Vin had been so consumed in his own thoughts that he hadn’t heard her at all. His heart was pounding in his throat and Vin swallowed hard.
“I think I aged like ten years in one second.” He laughed nervously.
“I didn’t mean to scare you.” Luna whispered, narrowing her eyes.
Her heart slammed hard within her chest, watching Vin in just a small towel which hung loosely below the vee of his hips.
The contrast of the immaculate white of the fabric against the caramel tone of Vin’s skin smoothing over rippling muscles was causing more than one yummy thought that she definitely didn’t need at that moment.
Luna didn’t realize that she was staring openly at Vin’s body, absently licking her lips. Vin noticed and slowly a cocky grin tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“You like what you see, Mrs. Vincent?” Vin whispered in a husky voice causing Luna to gasp soundlessly.
Mierda, maldita sea, me cago en… Luna cursed silently, averting her eyes. She was going to hell just for thinking some of the things she would do to that sexy as hell man, her husband, standing a few feet from her.
Damn, she needed to keep focused or she would be lost in two seconds. She had business to deal with and she didn’t want to wait any longer to find how deep her husbands’ betrayal ran. It was time for some truths.
“Are you celebrating something?” Luna asked, narrowing her eyes as she crossed her arms over her chest.
Vin blinked, meeting her gaze and narrowed his eyes. Okay, something was wrong, very wrong actually. Luna only crossed her arms if she was protecting herself and there was no one else around. Damnit! Vin cursed silently when his most fearful suspicion crushed him full force.
For a moment he went silent, recalling his options, and after several seconds, he swallowed hard, clearing his throat.
“Well, Allison called and I asked her if everything had gone okay with the meeting at HBO and she said everything had gone more than great. In fact she said ‘terrific’.” He answered; moving forward a step causing Luna take one step backwards. Vin frowned slightly and swallowed again. “She said that you made quite an impression on your partners.”
Luna snorted. “Yeah, that would be a ‘nice’ way to put it.” She replied coldly, but Vin noticed the sarcasm in her voice and his brows furrowed.
“What happened, Luna?” He asked, feeling his heart beating faster as he broke into a cold sweat. He was terrified of her answer all of a sudden.
Luna chuckled, biting her bottom lip hard.
“Do you want the events in chronological order? Or do you prefer them following another category, Vin?” She snapped, meeting his concerned gaze. “Such as which of them caused more shame or pain or anger.” Luna shut her eyes, feeling the familiar sting of tears.
Vin sighed hard and moved forward. Luna sensed him moving and snapped her eyes open.
“Don’t you dare come any closer to me, Vin.” She said firmly, causing Vin to freeze in place.
Even though Luna’s voice sounded strangled it didn’t leave room to complain.
Vin felt the soft hair of his neck standing all at once. She knew. He didn’t have the details and he didn’t even know how he was so sure but he was. Luna had found about the HBO contract and who knew what other things.
Cursing silently, Vin let out a heavy sigh. Someone had told her and by the look of things, that someone hadn’t saved back any nasty remarks. Shit, shit, shit. Vin winced at his own suspicions and shut his eyes. Damn! He was fucked.
“Luna…I’m sorry, baby. I…”
Luna cut him off.
“Why?” She asked coldly, forcing her tears back. She was not going to cry now.
Vin blinked, meeting her eyes and the vision sent shivers up his spine. Her gaze was showing clearly all the emotions Luna was going through at that very moment, and each of them was breaking Vin’s heart.
A painful roller coaster of opposed feelings, bizarrely mixed, was taking place within her and she was using every single nuance of strength to restrain her rising rage.
Pain, sadness, shame, anger… were so visible they could be touched. But over and above every single heartbreaking feeling there was one that felt like a stab in his heart. Disillusion.
He had failed her, again, and Vin already lost count of how many damn times he hadn’t measured up to her expectations, even though Luna’s expectations were never that hard to meet.
“We had a deal, Vin. We had a commitment…” Luna whispered, swallowing hard. “Why did you have to go and fuck with the only thing that was mine, Vin? Why?”
Vin shut his eyes, sighing hard. “I wanted to help you, baby and I didn’t know how.” He answered, opening his eyes. “Your contract with One Race was about to reach its end and I didn’t want you…” he trailed off, looking down.
“You didn’t want me…” Luna repeated, narrowing her eyes.
Vin lifted his head, taking a deep breath and met her gaze.
“I didn’t want you out of my sight, Luna.” Vin whispered. Shame and guilt were plenty noticeable in his deep voice.
“So you could keep controlling me?” Luna retorted sharply. “It wasn’t enough to control my life, you needed to control my career too?!” She hissed angrily.
“No. It’s not like that, baby.” Vin answered, frowning slightly. He knew it wasn’t the whole truth.
“Then what?!” Luna snapped, closing her hands in fists, barely controlling her sudden rage.
She knew that Vin was lying again; she could feel it, could heard it in his voice. A light edge on the inflection of his deep tone. Like a small hitch. She wondered if he was aware of that fact. That when he lied his voice carried that soft, almost imperceptible edge, and wondered if it always had been there and she was now noticing, sensing it.
Vin rubbed his neck; he was going to lose her if he didn’t start to spill his guts out like right now. He screwed up his face a little and fought back a whimper.
He didn’t want to think what he would do if he lost Luna. But Vin was sure about one thing, he better get a grip, facing his wife because Luna was his wife now and he wanted this marriage to work. More than anything, Vin wanted to find a way to deal with all the shit he had got himself into without losing Luna, his wife, in the process.
“I…Luna…I needed you with me. I…I had never had someone like you close to me and it felt fucking great and I didn’t want it to end.” Vin explained.
Luna narrowed her eyes. That edge was still there. It was even softer and more difficult to catch but it was still there nonetheless. She cursed silently as she felt her temper about to explode.
He was lying or at least he wasn’t telling all the truth.
“I knew you had talent and that you were going to be successful, baby. But this fucking business is damn tough and I didn’t want you going through the same shit I went through.” He paused, sighing hard. “I didn’t want you having to sell your soul to the Devil in exchange for a damn chance.”
Luna couldn’t hold back her anger and pain any longer.
“That’s what you thought? Fuck that, Vin!” Luna yelled, turning around, heading toward the bedroom. “I don’t believe one single word you said, fucker.”
Vin cursed himself silently and followed her. Damn, this was getting out of control damn fast.
Luna was sitting on the bed, looking down.
“I thought I could count on you, that you were going to count on me.” She whispered, closing her eyes tightly. “I thought you trusted me and that I could trust you…” she sighed hard. “I guess I was wrong. After all the shit we went through and you…you…”
“Okay, you’re right.” Vin sighed hard, watching her. “What I just said to you is the truth but not all of it.”
Luna lifted her head, looking at him. Vin’s eyes were showing shame and guilt and Luna swallowed forcefully.
All of a sudden she didn’t know if she wanted to know about all the lies Vin had been telling her anymore. Luna wasn’t sure if she could take it.
“I felt guilty because I had hit you and I thought that if I helped you I would feel better, but I was wrong because I only felt even worse.” Vin whispered, holding her gaze. “I knew I was lying to you, keeping the secret about the fucking HBO contract but once I had done it, I just couldn’t stop the shit from rolling and things started to get out of hand.”
Luna frowned slightly. The edge wasn’t there anymore.
Vin sighed hard and moved forward, sitting at the edge of the bed, tapping his bare thighs. Luna chewed her lower lip. She knew he was nervous; Vin only did that when he was really nervous.
“I have always known about how important your career was for you and I didn’t want to mess with that but…I knew you wouldn’t have accepted my help. So I did it without telling you.” Vin lifted his gaze and locked eyes with her. “I sent Marcela one of your stories, asking her to read it…she did and told me you were good but that you were still green, that you needed more experience and that you had to have an agent.”
Luna cursed silently. She should have known that Marcela was behind that shit too. Of course that old bitch was always there, pushing, scheming and plotting.
“I told her to find you a good agent and she found Allison. She didn’t tell anyone and asked me to keep the secret.” Vin explained, never taking his gaze off Luna’s. “Allison doesn’t know shit about all that though.”
Luna breathed, relieved. At least there was one person who hadn’t been hiding things from her. Unlike Valentino and Renee. Luna suspected that they both had known about this shit since the beginning and that they both had kept the secret.
Of course Luna couldn’t blame them. They had both probably thought they were saving her the pain, keeping themselves as much apart as possible. In any case, Luna was sure that Vin had told Val or maybe the Dominican figured it out on his own.
“The agency found a way to contact you without arousing suspicions and with that done, they assigned you Allison as your agent.” Vin sighed hard, and after a couple of seconds he went on.
“Marcela talked with someone at HBO and they told her that they were looking for scriptwriters. She thought it would be perfect and I contacted my lawyers so they made sure you had a decent contract. I only added one clause that wasn’t there and it wasn’t negotiable.”
“To be able to write from LA.” Luna sighed hard. In response Vin nodded ‘yes’.
“I didn’t want you moving to NY while I was living in LA. I wanted you available for me 24/7.” Vin answered. “I know I acted like a selfish bastard but I wanted you all for myself. I couldn’t stand sharing you with someone else, not even Val and Renee, and… running the risk of losing you if you met another guy was an unacceptable option for me.”
“You weren’t going to lose me, Vin.” Luna whispered, swallowing forcefully past the invisible knot in her throat. “I loved you and even if I had moved here I wouldn’t have stopped loving you.” She added, sighing hard.
Vin felt his heart stopping dead just to start racing wildly in his chest. She had always loved him since the very first minute. Not even after she found about the drugs, the chicks, the parties and his fuckups had she stopped loving him.
“Back then I didn’t know about that, Luna, and I thought I was doing the right thing…even though everybody was telling me that it was wrong… I just didn’t hear them because I’m a stubborn fucker and I think I’m in possession of the absolute truth and the others are the ones that are wrong.” Vin met her gaze again. “I’m so sorry, Luna. I know I hurt you and that I failed you, again, but please, baby, just give me the chance to make things right between us.”
Luna chuckled sadly. “Is there some other secret I should know about, Vin?” She asked, narrowing her eyes slightly.
Vin tensed, tightening his jaw. He thought about the wedding and shut his eyes tightly. He wasn’t sure if he should tell her about that shit too but since Luna was giving him a chance he may as well use it.
Vin was sick and tired of carrying that shit on his shoulders, and apart from that fact, he didn’t want Marcela telling Luna or worse, Luna finding about that just like with the HBO contract.
He took a deep breath and nodded ‘yes’, averting her eyes. Luna felt her guts clenching painfully in anticipation. All of sudden she had a bad feeling about what Vin was going to say. But she wanted all the secrets out of the way and then she would think about how to deal with whatever it was.
“Well?” Luna asked, narrowing her eyes in suspicion.
Vin took a deep breath and plunged ahead.
“I tricked you into marrying me.” He whispered under his breath.
Luna snorted.
“No kidding.” She replied sarcastically causing Vin to snap his head up, meeting her gaze. “I’m not that stupid, Vin. I figured it out on my own.”
Vin blinked, shocked, as his mouth hung open.
Luna laughed a little, watching Vin’s face. It was priceless.
“You can’t go pee without Renee at your side, Vin. There was no way you could plan a wedding, much less in the condition we were in… It’s true I was toasted but you were too.” Luna replied, a small grin tugging at the corner of her mouth. “I bet Marcela helped you with that task. Am I right? Because only a woman without class or taste could plan such a trashy wedding.”
Vin blinked, confused. He couldn’t believe that Luna had known all along and she didn’t say shit. He opened his mouth and closed it again without uttering a sound.
Luna’s grin grew a little more. The unspoken question was written all over Vin’s face.
“Why didn’t I say anything?” She asked him. In response Vin nodded ‘yes’. “You had my initials tattooed on your butt, baby. A little payback for your fuckup.” Luna winked, grinning devilishly.
Vin frowned deeply but he couldn’t stop the grin that graced his lips. Damn! Luna meant business. She wasn’t a woman to mess with and he was now realizing that fact.
“I bet it was that bitch’s idea though.” Luna said, her grin dying on her lips. “I wouldn’t be surprised if she thought it would help you to shoot ‘Hannibal’.” She added, her eyes flickering to his.
Vin shut his eyes, cursing. “Luna…” He whispered, opening his eyes. “I swear I didn’t marry you to shoot the fucking movie. You have to believe me on that, baby.” He said, as serious as a heart attack.
Luna narrowed her eyes, holding his gaze, searching for signs that told her he was lying again. There were none, and she let out the air slowly. At least it was true that her husband loved her.
“I know that, Vin.” Luna answered and Vin heaved a hard sigh. “Because you could have married me using your stage name and you didn’t. And I suspect you fucked Marcela big time marrying me with your real name, Mark Sinclair Vincent.” Luna teased him.
Vin winced, groaning at the sound of his whole name. Only Delora called him that and only when she was mad as hell.
Luna grinned wickedly, watching Vin’s reaction at his whole name. “I reminded you of your mom, huh?” She joked; her eyes sparkling with a mischievous gleam.
“Damn! I swear for a second I was ten years old again and my mom was scolding me for some shit I did.” Vin groaned, smiling sadly. Luna laughed softly.
“Serves you right, asshole.” She replied, grinning. Vin let out a heavy sigh.
“Are we okay, Luna?” He asked cautiously.
Vin didn’t want to keep his expectations too high. He damn well knew that he had fucked big time.
Luna’s smile died on her lips.
“I don’t know, Vin. Honestly, I don’t know.” She replied, sighing hard.
