Drive 17

The view isn’t much different on this side of the border but it feels different. Everything looks bigger. Feels emptier. I know a line on a map don’t make anybody any safer if someone wants to put a bullet in my head but it’s different, just crossing that line. Got a whole other country behind me now. I’m not about to get sloppy or nothing, thinking they won’t come gunning, but it feels like we just put a fuck of a lot of space between us.

Just one more reason to not like Twilight

The ‘Perfect’ Porn Vulva: More Women Demanding Cosmetic Genital Surgery

This just breaks my heart. Unless there’s something seriously medically wrong, there’s just no reason to have surgery, much less cosmetic surgery, on your genitals. Especially given how incredibly complex and far ranging the female clitoris is, cutting parts of your genitals away, for sexual pleasure no less, seems like a complete contradiction. I can’t help but think, upon reading this, that it’s got less to do with any supposed sexual benefit and more to do with controlling female sexuality. First through crushing self-esteem by telling young women that their perfectly normal parts aren’t pretty (or whatever the term that’s used) or porn-starry enough. Second is the cutting itself. What’s the difference between this and some horrid scene of female genital mutilation in a third world country?:

AlterNet | Rebecca Chalker

Women are risking their lives to achieve an unrealistic and unnecessary ideal.

Type “labiaplasty,” “vaginoplasty” or any of nearly a dozen female genital cosmetic surgeries into any search engine, and a flurry of doctors’ Web sites will pop up touting the self-esteem, sexual enhancement, comfort and fashion benefits of female genital cosmetic surgery.
