Dem state senator adds ‘Every sperm is sacred’ clause to ‘personhood’ bill:

A pro-choice Democratic legislator has taken a novel approach to fighting an Oklahoma “personhood” bill. According to the blog Jezebel, State Senator Constance Johnson of Oklahoma City has introduced a measure that calls to mind the famous Monty Python “Every Sperm is Sacred” sketch from the 1983 film “The Meaning of Life.”

The concept of “personhood” defines human life as beginning at the moment of conception and, in the case of Oklahoma’s pending Senate Bill 1433, says that the resulting fetus “at every stage of development (has) all the rights, privileges, and immunities available to other persons, citizens, and residents of this state.” If Senate Bill 1433 were to become law, all forms of abortion and some forms of contraception would be considered murder and therefore illegal.

Sen. Johnson, who represents Oklahoma’s 48th District has introduced an amendment to the bill mandating that the same rights and benefits be granted to spermatozoa, writing, “However, any action in which a man ejaculates or otherwise deposits semen anywhere but in a woman’s vagina shall be interpreted and construed as an action against an unborn child.”

This would outlaw masturbation by men, anal sex, sex with condoms, all forms of fellatio to completion, as well as numerous other acts. She later withdrew the measure, but stated that she had inserted it to highlight the absurdity and sexism inherent in the current bill.

We all know, I tend to shy away from award shows…

/smile

However, I can’t tell you how honored I am to be Nominated for an NAACP award, for the portrayal of Dom Toretto in Fast Five.

Haha… one to be proud of…

I am lucky to have such a great ensemble of actors, director, writer, producers… and even the studio. Film is truly a team effort, and everyone gave above and beyond.

P.s. Thank you NAACP for validating my work, and more importantly, validating all those who have believed in me.

Vin Diesel Confirms Seventh ‘Fast and Furious’ Movie in the Works:

The star of the franchise spoke to THR during a photoshoot for the Rule Breakers 2011 magazine feature.

The sixth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise will be split into two movies.

Vin Diesel, the star and a producer of Universal’s decade-long franchise, said that during the planning process of the new movie, the Fast and Furious creative team, which includes director Justin Lin and screenwriter Chris Morgan, realized that they would need a seventh movie to tell their story. The sixth and seventh are being written simultaneously, he said.

“With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space,” Diesel told THR during the photoshoot for its Rule Breakers 2011 portfolio.

Fast Five moved the franchise from the genre of car-racing adventure to action-adventure heist, while garnering the best reviews in the franchise’s history and grossing an astonishing $626 million worldwide. Apart from reuniting supporting characters from previous movies, it added star power in the form of Dwayne Johnson. A coda at the end of the movie teases the return of a character played by Eva Mendes last seen in 2 Fast 2 Furious as well as the return of Michelle Rodriguez.

“We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages,” Diesel explained. “The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!’”

Diesel did not reveal details on whether the two movies would be two-parters or two standalone movies.

The actor returned to the franchise with the series’ fourth outing after appearing in an end-of-movie cameo in the third movie. The move proved so popular that it paved the way for the return of Diesel and original star Paul Walker.

The movies have proved unexpectedly resilient, something that may have to do with the themes of family and brotherhood, according to the creative team.

“It’s not about the action and the cars, which initially appealed to me when I was 25 years old,” said Walker. “Because if that’s all it was, it would have fallen off a long time ago.”

FX To Gamble With Vin Diesel-Produced Series:

A future series with FX may be in the cards for Vin Diesel.

According to Deadline.com, the “Fast Five” star’s production company, One Race Films, is producing the pilot episode for “Raising Blind,” which has been acquired by the cable network.

The potential series is set in the world of underground gambling.

The pilot for “Raising Blind” reportedly will be written by Ben Younger and Jay Longino, based on a story by Josh Marchette, Longino and Younger.

“Rounders” director John Dahl will helm the project.

Younger wrote and directed the 2000 crime thriller “Boiler Room,” which starred Diesel, Giovanni Ribisi, Nia Long and Scott Caan.

More Riddick artwork released!:

riddick19sept2011

In the spirit of Creative Sundays…

Concept art and Key frames allow a production to explore possibilities before actually committing to film. The road to the “R” rating, that so many of you were vocal about, has been a long one. The advantage however, (never empower the negatives) was that we were allowed a really extensive preproduction. The art work is so good, the artists have really outdone themselves in illustrating this world at it’s early stage.

When this film comes to the screen… know that you willed it into being!

Haha…

New concept art for Riddick!

New concept art for Riddick!:

Vin Diesel
I hear you…

While I was working on character, the Director and his team of artists have been creating the world and style of this picture. We all know how much I enjoy concept art and storyboards, haha, I am like a kid in a candy shop.

Seeing the early stage of CGI is always fascinating to me, it is a element that usually comes together long after the filming process, so you look forward to seeing it fully realized.

First stop for the Riddick production is Canada, which is where we shot a large part of Chronicles…

P.s. I am grateful to have Universal in such support of this complex character’s journey… not many studios would back an “R” rating. Very cool.
