We all know, I tend to shy away from award shows…

/smile

However, I can’t tell you how honored I am to be Nominated for an NAACP award, for the portrayal of Dom Toretto in Fast Five.

Haha… one to be proud of…

I am lucky to have such a great ensemble of actors, director, writer, producers… and even the studio. Film is truly a team effort, and everyone gave above and beyond.

P.s. Thank you NAACP for validating my work, and more importantly, validating all those who have believed in me.

A [not] new companion! The walking Dead! Jordana Brewster, and SOPA! [I read stuff]

Madame de Pompadour as the next companion?:
NUP_102225_0119.jpg

This may all just be Steven Moffat trolling the internet, but the Doctor Who showrunner tweeted that people should follow Sophia Myles’s Twitter feed, and that he would explain later. Myles, who played Madame de Pompadour in Moffat’s second series episode “The Girl in the Fireplace”, put out a couple cryptic tweets, but no further information is forthcoming. This has led to speculation – as it always does in Doctor Who fandom — that Myles might be the next companion, or at least she might appear in the next series. I’m a bit more skeptical, but honestly this one is pretty hard to read. [Zap2It]

Karen Gillan confirmed again that her departure from the role has already been decided, but that her final appearances will comprise “a few episodes… a few really good episodes.” [Hitfix]

Vin Diesel Confirms Seventh ‘Fast and Furious’ Movie in the Works:

The star of the franchise spoke to THR during a photoshoot for the Rule Breakers 2011 magazine feature.

The sixth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise will be split into two movies.

Vin Diesel, the star and a producer of Universal’s decade-long franchise, said that during the planning process of the new movie, the Fast and Furious creative team, which includes director Justin Lin and screenwriter Chris Morgan, realized that they would need a seventh movie to tell their story. The sixth and seventh are being written simultaneously, he said.

“With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space,” Diesel told THR during the photoshoot for its Rule Breakers 2011 portfolio.

Fast Five moved the franchise from the genre of car-racing adventure to action-adventure heist, while garnering the best reviews in the franchise’s history and grossing an astonishing $626 million worldwide. Apart from reuniting supporting characters from previous movies, it added star power in the form of Dwayne Johnson. A coda at the end of the movie teases the return of a character played by Eva Mendes last seen in 2 Fast 2 Furious as well as the return of Michelle Rodriguez.

“We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages,” Diesel explained. “The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!’”

Diesel did not reveal details on whether the two movies would be two-parters or two standalone movies.

The actor returned to the franchise with the series’ fourth outing after appearing in an end-of-movie cameo in the third movie. The move proved so popular that it paved the way for the return of Diesel and original star Paul Walker.

The movies have proved unexpectedly resilient, something that may have to do with the themes of family and brotherhood, according to the creative team.

“It’s not about the action and the cars, which initially appealed to me when I was 25 years old,” said Walker. “Because if that’s all it was, it would have fallen off a long time ago.”

Idris Elba As James Bond? ‘I’d Consider It,’ Actor Says:

r-idris-elba-large570

Call him Bond, James Bond?

Though Daniel Craig is about to embark on his third adventure as 007, speculation already abounds as to who will replace him. One name that has been the subject of intrigue is Idris Elba, the English actor best known for his role as intellectually fierce drug king Stringer Bell in HBO’s landmark series “The Wire.” That would make him the non-white James Bond — an idea which Craig himself first suggested after Barack Obama was elected president back in 2008 — and something Elba endorsed, if mildly, in an interview with the Guardian in 2009.

Highlander, Wolverine, and a Tiger Shark rescue! [I read stuff]

Highlander reboot loses director:

Bad timing has caused Justin Lin to step down from the helm of relaunching the popular fantasy franchise. Summit’s remake of the original Highlander film, a property which spawned a huge franchise including a long-running television series, has been in development hell for over three years with only one name tied solidly to it: Director Justin Lin. This week, Summit decided – likely because their Twilight franchise is coming to an end – that production on Highlander needed to move into the next phase. This comes at a bad time for Lin who has already agreed to direct the next Fast and Furious film (as if we need another) and is currently in talks to direct the Terminator reboot. This is all too much for the up and coming director, so he’s chosen to step down from the helm of Highlander, though he will stay on as a producer.

Huge cream puff! Fast 6, and one step to Godwin [I read stuff]

Wherein I read things, laugh, and pass them on to you…

Bakers create world’s largest cream puff:

WEST ALLIS, Wis., Aug. 12 (UPI) — Wisconsin bakers have created the world’s biggest cream puff — weighing in at 125.6 pounds, officials say.

Guinness World Records certified the cream puff, 38 inches wide and 7-1/2 inches high, as a world record Thursday at the Wisconsin State Fair, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Danny Girton Jr., corporate adjudications manager for Guinness World Records, said the cream puff would appear in the 2013 edition of the book of world records.

Team Cream Puff, led by David “Puff Daddy” Schmidt, created the huge dessert, which took 6-1/2 hours to bake in an oversized oven.

No record existed for a cream puff, and Guinness decided the entry would have to weigh at least 50 pounds to be considered.

“It is three times bigger than the minimum requirement. … We blew it out of the water,” Schmidt said. “There was a lot of pressure to do this and do this right.”

The Sentinel said 10 to 12 people prepared the two outer shells and 15-1/2 gallons of cream into the night and the team put it together on a scale in front of more than 100 people on a stage Thursday at the State Fair ground’s Central Park.

But fair-goers couldn’t sample the gigantic cream puff.

“It has to be disposed of now,” Schmidt said. “It has been in the heat too long.”

Fast Six and Terminator 5

Early Details About ‘Fast and the Furious 6? Emerge:

With ‘Fast Five’ already becoming a hit overseas, ‘Fast and the Furious 6? is all but guaranteed to happen. Read on to learn more about what the next film will entail.

Fast Five doesn’t hit U.S. theaters until this Friday, but it’s already cleaning up at the international box office. The new Fast and the Furious film actually managed to outgross Thor in Australia over the weekend, while also getting off to a better start overseas than any of its predecessors. Hence why Fast and the Furious 6 (which is tentatively being referred to as Fast Six) looks to be all but a sure thing at this point.

Series star Vin Diesel and producer Neal H. Moritz have discussed their plans for a sixth Fast and the Furious pic before – and now there are some additional details about the flick, which franchise staple writer Chris Morgan has already begun working on.

Universal chairman Adam Fogelson offered the following bit to Deadline in a recent interview:

“The question putting ‘Fast Five’ and ‘Fast Six’ together for us was: Can we take it out of being a pure car culture movie and into being a true action franchise in the spirit of those great heist films made 10 or 15 years ago?”

Early word on Fast Five is that it does essentially transform the street car racing franchise into a heist series – like that of Ocean’s Eleven, albeit with more explosive vehicle chase sequences and shattering the laws of physics in general (not per se in a bad way, mind you).

Here is the logic behind that move, according to Fogelson:

“So if these movies were still about street racing, there was probably a ceiling on how many people would buy tickets. We wanted to see if we could raise it out of about racing and make car driving ability just a part of the movie, like those great chases in ‘The French Connection’, ‘The Bourne Identity’, ‘The Italian Job’.”
