Hugh Jackman’s The Wolverine Faces More Delays, May Shoot Next Year:
The-Wolverine-New-Director

The planned sequel, which is supposed to reboot the wayward Marvel franchise, has faced far too many obstacles in the preproduction stage, from original director Darren Aronofsky’s abrupt departure to delays caused by the tsunami that rocked Japan (where The Wolverine hoped to film). James Mangold’s on board to direct, and Christopher McQuarrie reportedly turned in a stellar script. But we’re hearing the film might be delayed. Again.

We reported back in August that Fox likely wouldn’t start production on The Wolverine until next year at this point, even though it had set up shop in Vancouver for potential shoots. But Moviehole.net, in an “Ask Clint” column, reiterates that sources close to the production say they have been delayed and that “they’ll resume talks again next year.”

Resume talks? That doesn’t sound like they’re ready to shoot, at all.

Urban Returns to Riddick:

riddick-3-artIt appears that Vin Diesel’s improbably-happening third Riddick movie will not necessarily be jettisoning everything from the previous, nearly fatal installment of the series. For one thing, Karl Urban will be reprising his role as Vaako in the picture.

Hugh Jackman, On WWE Raw, Breaks Dolph Ziggler’s Jaw

hugh-jackman

It’s Wolverine, bub.

Hugh Jackman appeared on WWE Raw on Monday night, making an effort to reach out to the young male audience that could make or break his upcoming robot boxing film, “Real Steel.” A unique blend of glitzy showman and physical specimen, Jackman helped move story lines and drama along, and near the end of the night, got in his own bit of action.

The star ended up in the corner of underdog wrestler Zach Ryder as he took on Dolph Ziggler, a heel wrestler known for antagonizing the audience and his opponents. He extended the annoyance to Jackman, intentionally confusing his famed Marvel X-Men character with Batman.

So Jackman made him pay.

Fast forward to 1:05 in the video below and check out Jackman just straight up laying out Ziggler with a punch that would make his robot buddies proud. And while it was staged, the results certainly weren’t planned.

“land in Bikini Bottom 9:30 am, MRI scheduled for 1 pm…..possible fractured jaw #thanksBatman” Ziggler tweeted on Tuesday, apparently so disoriented by the punch that he thought he was Spongebob Squarepants. “hairline mandibular fracture. Guess i’ll put my chipotle in a blender for a few weeks, its not ballet #HEEL > heal,” he added later in the day, confirming the injury.

It’s hard to say, this being professional wrestling, whether he actually had his jaw broken, or the scripted series has moved over to social networking, too. After all, the whole event was to build buzz for “Real Steel,” and the WWE, andwell, we’re doing just that by writing about the event. Either way, it was a pretty nasty punch.

‘Total Recall’ scribe rewriting ‘Wolverine’:

The-Wolverine-New-DirectorMark Bomback, the scribe who wrote Bryan Singer’s “Jack the Giant Killer” and Len Wiseman’s “Total Recall” remake, is adding one more tentpole to his resume: He’s been brought on to rewrite Christopher McQuarrie’s script for 20th Century Fox’s superhero sequel “The Wolverine.”

‘Wolverine 2? May Push Back To Spring Start:

EXCLUSIVE: The studio says it never officially has given the sequel a production state date. Fox was looking at a Fall 2011 start date for the Christopher McQuarrie script for Wolverine 2 starring Hugh Jackman and directed by James Mangold. But now that may push back to Spring 2012. The screenplay mostly takes place in Japan. But studio insiders tell us it’s hard finding just where to shoot in Japan these days because of weather-related considerations. Now the location might switch to Canada or become a combination of the two countries. But we’re also hearing that the start date will wait until after Jackman finishes making Les Miserables. There’s no question that 20th Century Fox wants the pic badly and has been trying to get its sequel to the X-Men spinoff The Wolverine rolling for quite awhile now. In June it landed director Mangold after Darren Aronofsky bowed out in March, ending one of the most competitive contests among Hollywood helmers for a major studio film. That set up the studio thinking that it could begin production in the fall.

Highlander reboot loses director:

Bad timing has caused Justin Lin to step down from the helm of relaunching the popular fantasy franchise. Summit’s remake of the original Highlander film, a property which spawned a huge franchise including a long-running television series, has been in development hell for over three years with only one name tied solidly to it: Director Justin Lin. This week, Summit decided – likely because their Twilight franchise is coming to an end – that production on Highlander needed to move into the next phase. This comes at a bad time for Lin who has already agreed to direct the next Fast and Furious film (as if we need another) and is currently in talks to direct the Terminator reboot. This is all too much for the up and coming director, so he’s chosen to step down from the helm of Highlander, though he will stay on as a producer.

Wolverine: “It Gets Better”:

One year ago, in the wake of a number of gay teen suicides, Dan Savage created a video with the aim to tell those being harassed and seeing no way out that “it gets better”.

It became a meme with over ten thousand videos echoeing Savage’s initial appeal from everyone from Barack Obama to Colin Farrell to Woody the Cowboy, with Google turning a selection into an advert for its social networking.

This week, the X-Men got involved, in the latest issue of Generation Hope by Phonogram team Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie.

It’s an allegory that sees a young man’s latent mutant genes emerging, only to find his situation mocked, seeing only one way out. However it’s not a complete substitution, we also discover that Generation Hope member Kenji Uedo’s father committed suicide when his mother found him with another man.

At which point Wolverine echoes Dan Savage’s campaign.

Hugh Jackman confirms ‘Wolverine 2′ rumors, villain & shoot:

Hugh Jackman was on-hand at the San Diego Comic Con to promote his Dreamworks film “Real Steel” (see photos and read more here) but Jackman was hit with questioned about the pending Wolverine film, simply titled “The Wolverine”.

After production delays, director Darren Aronofsky dropping out and the Japan earthquake/tsunami delaying production further, it appears “The Wolverine” will begin filming.

Jackman offered little details telling the crowd that filming is scheduled to start in October and that “Chris McQuarrie has written a fantastic script.” He added that he will fight the Silver Samurai in the new film and “that should be exciting.”

This is a confirmation of the leaked story from October of last year which was retracted rather quickly. Read those details here, Spoiler alert!

First appearing in Daredevil #111, the Silver Samurai is a criminal from Japan that has the ability to absorb tachyon particles and turn it into a sword of pure energy that can destroy anything except adamantium.

James Mangold will takeover as director and “The Wolverine” is set to be released in the summer of 2012.
