Operation Emu

Some of the best things come by way of serendipity, and in the case of books, it’s often the one you never looked for but that came to you that makes for an interesting read. That’s how I’m looking at “Operation Emu”, by B. Brandon Barker , a book that came to me through email.

Being a conspiracy theorist, and seeing the “Operation” part, I of course went off to look for any Operation Emu. After all, it’s not the first time that birds have been used to name ops, although I had never heard of EMU. Quite quickly I found that it wasn’t an op I was looking at but a book. A good one at that, done in the footsteps of authors I admire like Kurt Vonnegut and Tom Robbins.

So far, and I’m only three chapters in mind you, it’s a thoroughly entertaining read! I could quote but that would spoil it…go read. Click on the pic or on the link below…

Jack [2]

Chapter 2

The glider’s wings snapped in the breeze that had kicked up. The horsemen dismounted and held onto the reins of their mounts, pulling the beasts back slightly across the grass towards one of their number that stood away from the strange circle and held the reins of the gathered horses, murmuring quiet words to them and soothing them as much as he could.

Werewolves: Apparently, they’re Stephanie Meyer’s

It’s no big secret that all things “Twilight” make me sick to my stomach, what, with the sparkling and the Volvos and creepy stalker boyfriend from hell bit, but this really takes the cake. Werewolves have been a part of popular culture for a LONG time now and have existed in lore for thousands of years, but somehow, all of those guys have ripped off Meyer too. I’m sure I could make a huge list of such films and shows but it’s not really necessary, especially not here. Apparently though, at least one stupid Twilight fan decided that Meyer had actually invented werewolves, as well as the lore behind them, like silver bullets, etc. I seriously hope this writer is very young and immature; at this point it would be her only saving grace:

The e-mail was from Kayla Patterson, a die hard Twilight/Taylor Lautner fan upset about Universal Pictures ripping off the werewolf idea from Twilight. That’s right, Universal Studios, who first put werewolves in theaters, are a bunch of copycats. [Latino Review]

To whom this may concern:

This movie was a complete waste and I feel that it offends ALL Twilight Fans around the world, that including myself. For one, it was a COMPLETE remaking of the Wolf Pack from the Twilight Saga: New Moon. It gives the werewolves a bad name and makes them look like some deformed mutation of a rabid dog. I actually started to like werewolves after seeing Jacob Black and all his awesomeness on the big screen at the movies. That was until I saw your crappy remake of what you call to be a “were wolf”. I don’t see how you live with yourself for making it the way you did. If I made this movie, I would be ashamed to even admit that I owned it. How can a werewolf be killed with a silver bullet? Better yet, have you saw the transformation of the man that is “supposed” to be the wolf? He sits in some chair and his entire body turns in to some mutated freak. If you would watch the transformation of Jacob Black, (Taylor Lautner) he doesn’t come close to looking as fake, cheap and or mutated as the wolf man.  You tell me, who looks to be the better werewolf. Your stupid Wolf Movie didn’t even make the top Movie for the charts; Valentines Day WITH TAYLOR Lautner! Get that this is MY oppinion and I felt I wanted to express it because I saw that your email was on your site. I wanted to let you know this is what i thought of the wolf man that sucks.
FREAKIN LAUTNER DID!

The Poser of who could never be even if they tried : ” Aka : Rabid poser Werewolf  “The Wolf Man”

*pic from ‘The Wolf Man’*

OR My favorite: Taylor Daniel Lautner aka Jacob Black

*pic of Lautner*

TEAM JACOB- cuz hes a REAL WEREWOLVE!

McG: a fanfiction fan

It always makes me glad to hear that people involves with popular TV shows (or books, movies, etc) appreciate fan fiction. McG, or Joseph McGinty Nichol, the producer for “Supernatural”, has this to say about fanfiction:

He says, “I’m a huge fan of the fan fiction. I think it’s a wonderful art form.” and goes on to extol the virtues of fans having access to Final Cut Pro and laptops, letting them make their own “Supernatural” creations.

Away

Hello, readers,

Due to a surgical procedure I’m having tomorrow morning, I won’t be able to update the blog for a few days. While I’m recuperating, the writing will continue on though, so have no fear! The second chapter of Jack is almost complete and I should hopefully have it ready to go next week when I’m back, so stay tuned!

Riddick 3 Will Be A Return To Pitch Black’s Creature Feature

io9

Now that Riddick 3 is being made at Universal, there’s one important question to ask. Will the third film be a continuation of the Necromonger-focused Chronicles story line, or a return to the Pitch Black-style action? Rumors say the latter.

Hollywood Reporter has the inside scoop on the new Riddick plot line:

Though billed as a back-to-basics approach to the character popularized by Diesel, the script features the character — the most wanted man in the galaxy — left for dead on a barren alien planet, dealing with “trisons” (three-legged bisons) and “mud demons.” He must then contend with two squads of bounty hunters, one of which ride rockets called jetcycles.

While we’re still extremely curious about the mysterious half dead Necro race, and we really want to see Riddick “keeping what he kills” i.e. the Lord Marshall’s seat at the head of the Necro fleet. We have no problem with some good, old fashioned Furyan death-dealing. As long as Tombs comes back.

Chronicles of Riddick 3 Plot Details

Rob Keyes/Screen Rant

To no surprise, Chronicles of Riddick 3 was just confirmed a few days ago with its star Vin Diesel set to return in one of his career-defining franchises. At this point, the film’s tentative title is simply Riddick and it’s set to be distributed domestically by Universal and internationally by Lionsgate if things go according to plan.

And going according to plan is exactly what’s happening at this early stage. According to THR, the Riddick property is hot in demand and Lionsgate was able to get a bidding war happening in Russia for the rights to its distribution where the asking price has jumped up past $2.5 million for that country alone. This was after a late-night presentation to buyers that Diesel himself attended.

The most interesting part of the report however, are the details about the sequel’s plot that were revealed. If you’re interested, skip on ahead after the jump to check it out.
