This day at Teahupoo- Aug 27th 2011 during the Billabong Pro waiting period is what many are calling the biggest and gnarliest Teahupoo ever ridden. Chris Bryan was fortunate enough to be there working for Billabong on a day that will go down in the history of big wave surfing. The French Navy labeled this day a double code red prohibiting and threatening to arrest anyone that entered the water.
Kelly Slater described the day by saying “witnessing this was a draining feeling being terrified for other people’s lives all day long, it’s life or death. Letting go of that rope one time can change your life and not many people will ever experience that in their life.”

Hugh Jackman, On WWE Raw, Breaks Dolph Ziggler’s Jaw

hugh-jackman

It’s Wolverine, bub.

Hugh Jackman appeared on WWE Raw on Monday night, making an effort to reach out to the young male audience that could make or break his upcoming robot boxing film, “Real Steel.” A unique blend of glitzy showman and physical specimen, Jackman helped move story lines and drama along, and near the end of the night, got in his own bit of action.

The star ended up in the corner of underdog wrestler Zach Ryder as he took on Dolph Ziggler, a heel wrestler known for antagonizing the audience and his opponents. He extended the annoyance to Jackman, intentionally confusing his famed Marvel X-Men character with Batman.

So Jackman made him pay.

Fast forward to 1:05 in the video below and check out Jackman just straight up laying out Ziggler with a punch that would make his robot buddies proud. And while it was staged, the results certainly weren’t planned.

“land in Bikini Bottom 9:30 am, MRI scheduled for 1 pm…..possible fractured jaw #thanksBatman” Ziggler tweeted on Tuesday, apparently so disoriented by the punch that he thought he was Spongebob Squarepants. “hairline mandibular fracture. Guess i’ll put my chipotle in a blender for a few weeks, its not ballet #HEEL > heal,” he added later in the day, confirming the injury.

It’s hard to say, this being professional wrestling, whether he actually had his jaw broken, or the scripted series has moved over to social networking, too. After all, the whole event was to build buzz for “Real Steel,” and the WWE, andwell, we’re doing just that by writing about the event. Either way, it was a pretty nasty punch.

Highlander, Wolverine, and a Tiger Shark rescue! [I read stuff]

Highlander reboot loses director:

Bad timing has caused Justin Lin to step down from the helm of relaunching the popular fantasy franchise. Summit’s remake of the original Highlander film, a property which spawned a huge franchise including a long-running television series, has been in development hell for over three years with only one name tied solidly to it: Director Justin Lin. This week, Summit decided – likely because their Twilight franchise is coming to an end – that production on Highlander needed to move into the next phase. This comes at a bad time for Lin who has already agreed to direct the next Fast and Furious film (as if we need another) and is currently in talks to direct the Terminator reboot. This is all too much for the up and coming director, so he’s chosen to step down from the helm of Highlander, though he will stay on as a producer.

Wolverine: Mangold to direct

The Wolverine Gets A New Director:

After a long search for (another) director to helm ‘The Wolverine,’ Twentieth Century Fox and star Hugh Jackman have selected James Mangold to direct the X-Men spinoff.

When the reports came out of these 8 directors being in the running, I listed James Mangold as one of the better choices of the bunch. As it turns out, Jackman and Twentieth Century Fox took my advice (not really) and after narrowing down the list to him, Gavin O’Connor and Antoine Fuqua, have chosen Mangold as the new director of Wolverine 2 (officially titled The Wolverine). They’re entering negotiations but the report indicates that he will accept.

To the average moviegoer, Mangold may not be a familiar name, but it will be. He directed the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line, which earned 5 Oscar nominations, including a win for Reese Witherspoon, and followed that up with the western, 3:10 to Yuma which also earned a pair of nods from the Academy. Since then, he directed the action-comedy Knight and Day with Tom Cruise, but he has a pile of projects in development.

James Mangold arguably may not be of Darren Aronofsky’s caliber, but let’s wait and see what he does with the next installment in the X-Men franchise. If 3:10 to Yuma is any indication, Mangold can bring the character moments and suspenseful action needed to make a true-to-form Wolverine movie.

Wolverine 2: Jackman drops ‘Avon Man’

• READ: Hugh Jackman Drops ‘Avon Man’ For ‘Wolverine 2′:

The Australian actor has dropped out of Kevin Lima’s comedy “Avon Man” so he can spend some more time at the gym and get into the right shape for “Wolverine 2.” The sequel to the prequel — if that makes any sense — features a heavy Japanese samurai story and is due to go into production in early 2011. However, with “Avon Man” targeting an October release, the question has become why can’t the actor do both?

Apparently, Jackman’s weight and build has been a factor in his recent roles which means his physique is somewhat different to what was seen in the last X-Men movie. Now he has to focus his energy on meeting the requirements of the role.

Breaking News: Liev Schreiber Has Read The Wolverine 2 Script

io9

At a Repo Man press conference today, Liev Schreiber confirmed that he and Hugh Jackman have read the Wolverine 2 screenplay. Even though he’s unsure whether Sabretooth will appear, he’s optimistic about Victor Creed’s return for Logan’s Samurai saga.

At a press conference for Repo Man in New York, Schreiber had the following to say about Wolverine’s Japan odyssey.

I just had dinner with [Hugh Jackman] last night and read the first draft of the script and I was really excited about it. It’s still not clear whether or not Victor will be present in the Japan storyline. In the Japan storyline as I remember it from the Wolverine comics, Victor wasn’t there. So I don’t know, of course I’ve got my fingers crossed because I love the character so much, to have the chance to do it again would be a lot of fun, but I’m not sure.

Wolverine 2 is slated to film early next year.
